I have been having a number of conversations over the last few weeks where people have been understating the need for greater search engine exposure or under playing the skills involved. There seems to be some confusion? Well, let me add my basic rules to clarify my position.
- Websites are all about eyeballs.
- You get more eyeballs from search engines (Google!) than any other method.
- If you play it right the eyeballs you get from search engines can be the most valuable and cost effective eyeballs available.
- If you think lots of valuable search engine eyeballs will come to you in a competitive area without someone helping you who really knows what they are doing… think again!
Now, if you do get eyeballs, what your eyeballs (visitors… if you didn’t guess) look at and make their fingers do is a different matter entirely. But without eyeballs in the first place it doesn’t really matter.
